Background: Luteal phase support (LPS) in assisted reproduction cycles has been widely investigated in recent years. Methods: A questionnaire was sent by secure e-mail to 1,480 clinicians involved in ART worldwide; 148 clinicians from 34 countries returned completed questionnaires. Results: Progesterone support is usually started on the day of oocyte retrieval; 80% of clinicians applied vaginal progesterone only, 6% intramuscular, 5% oral progestin and 5% subcutaneous progesterone. Conclusions: Vaginal administration was the preferred route for luteal phase support; the emerging use of the oral route confirms the expected shift in clinical practice.
